Knitting for PTSD & Depression & More

Knitting Therapy

Did you know that many people are knitting and crocheting to de-stress from PTSD. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful pastime and hobby. If you know anyone suffering from PTSD or depression or any number of other conditions, a good website to check out is https://westcoastknitter.wordpress.com/tag/ptsd/. It does make very interesting reading.

Yarn Tasting Wass Great Fun!

The yarn tasting went well and we all had fun, playing with yarn is always so enjoyable. The fact we get to do it as a group is even better. The choice of yarn we got to taste was a nice mixture of thirteen different types. Here is an outline of them, just in case you missed out. We have some packs if you are interested doing a tasting of your own.

Maybe Knit-a-Long Fun

There are a few here that I would like to make. How about a knit-along with one of them? For every yarn there are endless possibilities.

The yarn hop preparations are coming along nicely. For this year’s, Yarn hop we are doing something a little different as well as the usual. I can’t remember if I have told you about this before so forgive me if I have. Each store has come up with a design that we have put together in a cowl. When you visit each store you will be given that stores design. When put together they will make a very nice cowl. I have now received all of the designs and I have the finished cowl on display in the store. Come and take a look. I think you will like it. Only two months away now, I know a lot of you are getting ready.

Lots to look at and enjoy this week, I hope. Perhaps you will find something here that you just can’t wait to get onto your needles.

For the crocheter’s, we will soon have those garments we are working on up in the store, look for pictures next week.

Till next week-Trudy

It’s Almost Summer

Sebastopol Yarn Store

Good Monday Morning again, how is it going this week? Are you getting ready for summer? Yes, I am really ready now for some sunshine to stay around for a while. Almost June, what a strange year this has been for the weather.   Well for everything really. I am ready for some calm and tranquility to surround me, enough of all the negativity and mess. I need good vibes now.

Trendsetter Yarn Tasting

Sebastopol Knitting ClassesWell let’s start by having fun with the Trendsetter Yarn Tasting this coming Saturday, boy did that come around quickly. There are a few spaces left so grab them quick and come and join us for an enjoyable few hours playing with some fantastic new yarn, and help influence some of the yarn I purchase.

We will have a prize for the most interesting use of the yarns we will be tasting. Thirteen different yarns to be exact. There will be a nice selection of the knitter’s pride knitting needles and crochet hooks for you to test out as well. This isn’t just for knitters.

While you are here, you can check out the 60% off books, there isn’t just a few, we have a lot to choose from, also some fantastic specials and don’t forget to get your name in for the anniversary drawing which will be chosen at the end of May.

More Crocheters Are Showing Up

Due to the fact, we are getting more and more crocheters in the store I am finishing a cute summer top that is really easy, and a lot of fun to make, just chains, single and double crochets. I am working it up in Queensland Savanah, another amazingly nice yarn, blending 66% silk and 34% linen. There are 250 yards per 100g, a nice weight for both knitting and crochet. This is a yarn that was in a tasting we had last year and proved to be very popular so we decided to carry it this year.

We Are Now Moved-So Glad!

Santa Rosa Movers

I am relieved to say we are now moved into our new home, for the coming year at least. There were a few days there that it was a challenge to say the least. The worst thing was not having the time or space to knit at home. Finding things is another ongoing challenge. It is a bit like trying to fit a gallon into a pint pot. We have donated so much to goodwill and thrown so much ‘stuff’ out but we still need storage for somethings.

Hopefully we can start the search for our forever home very soon. WITHOUT stairs and hills. I am amazed at how strong the movers were, 4 men working from 8am to 5.30pm with hardly a break, carrying large pieces of furniture up and down negotiating tight corners and they still managed to keep smiling and whistling. We will certainly be calling them again when it is time to move into the next place. It certainly was not an easy move.

Reviews Matter

Sonoma County Yarn StoreI just want to share something with you, something that can affect my business, and something that I don’t think people often think about. Reviews. Recently I received a review from someone who has never set foot in our store. It is our store, without you I wouldn’t be here. They saw my car which was not being driven by me at the time and assumed that the driver was the owner of Yarnitudes. This person writing the review had been driving erratically and extremely fast, so I was told, and didn’t like the fact she was unable to pass the driver of my car.

Without any knowledge or consideration given to the affect this may have on us, she posted a bad rating on Yelp. While it takes many good reviews to keep us in good standing it only takes one bad one to bring that down. If it is a bad review about what we did as a business that would be one thing, we are not perfect and I need to know if I am doing something that people don’t like, but for something that had absolutely nothing to do with the shop is really upsetting.   So, I ask if I do something wrong, please tell me so I can correct it, If I make you happy, please tell everyone else.   Sorry for my little rant but I needed to share.   I am over it now, thanks for listening.

Yarn Hop Is Coming!

Yarn Hop

The Yarn Hop preparations are moving along nicely. Don’t forget to help us spread the word and make this the best ever. If you know somewhere to hang a poster let us know and we would love to give you one to share. The Hop is a great way to spread the word about knitting and crochet, in fact all fiber arts. Help us to keep centuries old crafts alive.

I am almost finished with the Hop cowl, we have all of the stitch patterns together now. I have done mine in 5 colors, one for each store, then I will be making one in a tonal yarn just so you can see the difference. Be sure to collect the individual stitch design from each store. Samples will be on display very soon. I will be offering a limited amount of (4) kits using the colors I chose, first come first served.

Our free knitting pattern this week, is a wonderful summer top with open work. We have lots of wonderful yarn that would make this into a stunning top: https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=7895&cid=17

So much to do and so little time, so I will leave you now this week and hope to see you very soon. Take care and enjoy every moment. Happy yarning, until next time ~ Trudy

6th Anniversary & A Fun Sale

The Sun is Shining

Well good morning again, have you had a good week?

Perhaps it has been like mine, a little up and a little down but very, very busy. I think overall more ups than downs though. The weather is certainly helping in that regard. I love this time of year with all the colorful flowers blooming, aahhhhhh!

Sonoma County Yarn Store

Happy 6th Anniversary

Unfortunately, I have got a little behind this year, oops if my brother sees that he will say my behind is anything but little. It is our Anniversary month. I can hardly believe that it is six years already. It was actually last week the 9th.  So, I am already into my 7th year. Who’d have thunk it?

6th Anniversary

There have been a lot of changes over that time. I certainly know a lot more about owning a yarn shop than I did back then. Styles come and go, yarns come and go, more and more new and fantastic yarn is available all the time. The shelves are stacked to the gills, but in the overall scheme of things we have but a small tasting. It is hard for me to choose just the right ones. I keep trying though, to give you a good overall selection. It isn’t just the yarn though, although for me that is one of the most important fun parts. Needles have come a long way and there are so many to choose from. Just when I think I have found the best they come out with another kind, so many little tools to make our life easier too.

RavelryRavelry

Patterns – when I first bought the stock from Sandy I ended up getting a very large file cabinet, two 4 drawer files cabinets actually. Then when I purchased Balls and Skeins I inherited even more. Now with Ravelry as big as it is, paper patterns are not needed as much so I am slowly emptying the drawers and printing patterns from online. Some of them are actually free too. At least now it is immediate, no more waiting for orders to come in and hoping I have the correct amount. Of course, there will still be those occasions when I have to actually order patterns because they are not available on line, or for the go to pattern that everybody wants. I still have those.

Books are yet another story, so, so many. With more and more people going digital our shelves are loaded.

Celebrate with a Sale-Selected Books 60% Off

So, in order to help us celebrate this milestone and to help us make room for more of what you are really looking for these days, selected books will be at 60% off for the rest of the month. If you have been eyeing a book that you would like for your own library come on in and we both win. I am also going to have a drawing. Prize drawing that is. Each time you come in from now to the end of the month put your name and phone number in the bowl and at the end of the month I will drawer three names. The more times you come in the more times you can enter. I will also top up the bargain box with special offers. There will be random sales on other things around the store so make sure you take a good look around, you never know what might be waiting for you.

One last thing, for this month only, the 6th purchase of the day each day will receive an additional 10% discount, on everything!

Trendsetter Yarn Tasting

Space will be limited, so don’t miss out. The tickets are now on sale $5 each which can be applied to any purchase that day.

The Weeks Are Flying By

Hi again, boy oh boy, these weeks are just flying by. May already, second week no less.

I am following up on some questions asked after last week’s newsletter.    The Yarn hop is going to be on the 22nd and 23rd July. So, mark your calendars and save the date.

Yarn Hop

Free Pattern Offerings

Sebastopol Knitting ClassesThe sweater that was shown on the introduction to the newsletter last week was a free pattern and yes, it is pretty easy.

Lots of yarn to choose from at Yarnitudes that would be great choices that would knit up beautifully.

I am so happy that so many of you wanted to make it for yourself, someone you love, and even said it would look good on me.

Yarn Tasting Anyone?

Now, what’s next? Well everyone had such a great time at the Cascade Yarn tasting earlier in the year, it was this year, wasn’t it? So we have decided to do it again with another supplier. This time Maxine will be here on Saturday 27th of May with samples from Trendsetter yarns.

We will do the same kind of thing, just a bit more organized. There will be tickets, $5 per person, which will be good towards a purchase that day. You will also be able to make orders on the day if you would like to and there will also be a trunk show. Yeah, more fun for everyone.

Beautiful Yarn-So Many New Choices

The yarns we have chosen this time are really different. As MaryAnn was getting the samples put together I heard a lot of oohs and ahhs. Very intriguing to see what can come from these amazing yarns. So, like before we there will be a limited number of tickets, first come first served. Oh, and if you attend you will be entitled to 10% off any orders placed. You could in fact have a say in what yarns we get to stock in the store.

The Beauty of Temperate Weather

We are so very, very lucky to live in a place where the temperatures are not extreme. A lot of the things we can wear here can be worn all year round, OK perhaps not the hat. Just by adjusting the type of yarn used, or layering it with other items of clothing these or many items like them can go from beach to the board room, office to evening cocktails. Going on a cruise?

A little black dress can be transformed by the addition of a little sparkle in a cardigan. Black or white pants with a bright colorful top. With the addition of a light and airy shawl or summer scarf even the simplest of outfits can be made to look very sophisticated or very hip. Come on in and see all the different types of yarn we have for this time of the year, I am certain you will be impressed.
