Happy Fourth of July! Did someone say yarn?

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

Hi Hi!

Happy Fourth!  I hope this finds you well.  Did you have a nice holiday weekend?  Was your pet cowering in the corner like mine was with all the rattles and booms?  Poor guy.  You wouldn’t think a big dog would be such a baby!  Oh well.

I have some fun new things to share with you today!  We keep getting in new things. Have you noticed?  I guess the yarn reps are doing their jobs well convincing us to try out new things!  Now it is my turn to convince you.  Here look, shiny new yarn! Let me twist your arm.  Ha ha!

First up I have something completely different for Yarnitudes.  We are going to be carrying some stitching themed coffee mugs that just became available.  We got a few in to the store so you can see what they look like.  But if you want a specific design and have missed out never fear.  We are taking preorders for these.  Then I will do a big order and have them all shipped out together!  Check out the cute designs!

There are a couple for crochet ($10.50.)

There are the same designs available but for knitting.

And finally, there is one for stitching.  If you know a quilter we can even order quilting mugs just let us know.

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

I find these last ones especially neat.  Look the sheep is a ball of yarn that then is knit into socks, mittens, a sweater and more!  There are four color choices available here.  They are $12.50 apiece, but if you want the whole set I will give you a discounted price of $46 for four mugs.

Just stop by the shop and let us know which ones you want.  Don’t forget that special someone on your list with the holidays coming in a few months.  Don’t laugh, I have to plan ahead these days!  We will place a couple of orders for these so don’t worry if you miss the first shipment.  We will continue to take orders in the fall.

Enough about cups.  Let’s talk yarn!!!

I have gotten in a couple of great new baby yarns recently that I’d like to share with you.

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

Remember Uptown anti pilling acrylic in DK, Worsted, and Chunky?  Well we now carry it in Baby Sport weight as well.  It is so soft, lovely to knit with, and it doesn’t squeak at all.  If you’ve ever knit with some other acrylics you know what I’m talking about.  This stuff is great! It is perfect for a wash and wear project for the little one in your life.  This weight has a whopping 361 yards per 100g and is perfect for little sweaters, booties and blankets.  They recommend 24 stitches and 30 rows per four inches on a size 4 needle or 24 stitches and 28 rows in single crochet over four inches on a size F hook.  We love Universal Yarns.  They have their own mills so their products are sooo reasonably priced!

Two other Universal yarns that are due in any day now are Cotton Supreme and Cotton Supreme Batik.  We briefly had a little of this on the shelf and have decided to jump in with both feet.  We are expecting forty five bags of yarn in this cotton.  Nope, that’s not a typo.  It was so much fun picking out coordinating colors for this!  I tried to pick solids that matched the batiks so that you could have even more fun with your projects.  This worsted/aran weight yarn has 180 yards per 100g in solids and batiks both.  It knits up to 16-20 stitches per four inches on a US 6-8 needle and calls for an H-J hook.  We will have sample garments knit up in both the solids and the batiks so you can see just how great this yarn works up.  Stop in and see!

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

Next up we have Euro Baby Maypole DK.  This polyester yarn machine washes but dries flat. It is super squishy and has long color repeats.  This makes your projects interesting to work on because you get to see the different colors flow by!  You get 262 yards per 100g with 18-24 stitches per four inches with a US 6 to 8 needle or 11-14 stitches per four inches in single crochet with an I or K hook.  I just love the bright colors in this yarn.

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

Another Euro Yarn we got in is called Cana Ruca by Arucania.  This one is 100% viscose made from sugar cane. Can you believe it?  The hand dyed colors are just gorgeous.  This yarn has 319 yards per 100g and knits up at 24stitches per four inches on a US 4 or 5 needle.  You get 16-20 stitches per four inches in single crochet on an E or size 7 hook.  Viscose is a great yarn for drapey summer tops.  Stop by to check this out in person.  The photos do not do the colors justice!!!

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

I will leave you with one parting thought.  With all the new things coming in, the old stuff has to go out.  I have restocked the clearance shelves.  The $2/ball bin gets refreshed regularly.  Please help us out and take home some of this yarn!  Nothing is wrong with it.  We are just trying new things and the store gets overfull when we get overzealous with ordering.  The clearance shelves are also fully stocked!   Stop in and check it out.  Plenty of yarn for big projects and small!

The Cat is Away!

cat away

Hello there,

Did you have a good week, the weather was great wasn’t it, a taste of things to come and a little break from the rain.  Now we need to hunker down again for more rain, yes?

Beginning today I won’t be in the shop for a couple of weeks.  I will be out herding some more sheep, and hopefully knitting up a storm.  I will also be getting ready for the wine and wool extravaganza.  In case you don’t remember, we are pairing with the Mauritson Winery to bring wine and wool together at their gorgeous facility in Healdsburg.  Always thinking of new ways for us all to have a good time doing what we love to do. I think it will be lots of fun and hope you can come out and join us.  There is also talk of there being jambalaya too.  How lucky are we to live in this wonderful county that we have the good fortune to call home.

wine and wool

Well while I am away from the shop I need you to keep an eye on Lesley for me.  I never know what she might get up to while I am away.  She will of course be taking great care of you all, with some help from Karen and Linda, but I have a feeling she has something up her sleeve?

surprised cat

I am now handing you over to her, you will be in good hands and I will cross my fingers as I knit. I bet you would like to see that eh?  Have a great couple of weeks and I will see you back in the shop on the 27th, Have fun I will miss you.

~Trudy

Almost Turkey Time!

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

Felted Turkey Pattern

Good Morning, I hope you are well and have had a great week.  Can you believe next week will be Thanksgiving?  Wow!  We have so much to be thankful for.  We live in one of the best places on earth; have great families and friends, and the greatest customers ever.  My list goes on and on but that is for another time.

I know I have really freaked Lesley out about how soon the holiday is coming on.  She is still busy on her Thanksgiving hats.  A few things have managed to take her attention away from them lately, oops.  She will do it though, we all know she will.  Stay tuned for next week she has a special addition to email planned for you so that she can show you all the hats!  I’m pretty sure this isn’t what she is making,  but wouldn’t it be funny?

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

Cooked turkey hat pattern

Now that we have you thinking about silly hats.  We now have the Top This Hat kits in the store.   They are going fast too!  Have you seen them?

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

They are soooo cute.  There are all kinds of animals  I am making one for Lesley, so don’t be surprised if you come in and see her with a monkey on her head.  They even have some new ones for Christmas and the holidays; you will have to let us know if you want those though as they are not available until next month so we have to get our order in quick with them.

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

They are a great quick knit and a very reasonable price, only $9.50.  You don’t have to just make a hat though.  We have instructions at the shop to make a pair of slippers with 2 kits or a cute scarf.

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

Speaking of quick projects, I have finally, yay, finished putting all the clearance items together into bags with ideas of what you can make from them.  I have mixed and matched colors too, so now you can just pick one up and away you go.  We have quite a selections of kits put together from hats, scarves, washcloths – which make great hostess gifts, to Fair Isle cardigans, and vests.  Prices range from 25% to 60% off.  Also, if you look around the store you will see other discounts on selected yarn, and needles.  Be sure to check the signs on each shelf to see our specials.

gift

Our gift list/registration, Secret Santa, whatever you would like to call it is now going strong.  Some of you have already gotten your list ready.  Needle sets and yarn are most popular, but bags and books are a great idea too.  We will soon have more Della Q and Atenti bags in the store.  We have extra needles sets in stock and will special order for you if we need to to make your gift just perfect!  It is all way too exciting.  The knitters Pride Royale collection is here, minus one set, I just had to have one for myself.  Have you seen them? They really are beautiful.

sonoma county yarn shop

Speaking of books, was I?   We now have the Knit the Sky books in stock.  Come by and get a taste of what is to come in the workshop that we are having soon.  We have a correction to the workshop cost.  It should have read $20 for the workshop or $35 with the book.  We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to meet a local author and learn from her in person!  I had a lady in yesterday who had already been inspired by it and had knit one of the projects from the book.  Come and join Lea, Lesley, and I for a couple of hours of fun.  A reminder the date for this is Sunday, December 6th, 4:30-6:30pm.  Sign up now!

Sonoma County Knitting Class

We are getting ready, planning for next year, classes, visits from local celebrities etc.  We are really trying to keep things hopping, and get you inspired.   Please continue to check the website for current information on classes and workshops.  We have some exciting things in store for you!

help

Speaking of what we have in store for you, we have made a great change.  We have scheduled drop in help sessions twice a week so that hopefully you can get help on your projects in progress.  Our schedule is Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00pm and Fridays from 10:00-11:00am.  Madeline has agreed to come in and help us during these times so you will have plenty of opportunity to get help.  The cost is just $10 per hour.  We hope you will take advantage of this time to get your projects back on track.  As always if you have a quick question, there is not charge but anything that takes more than about 5-10 minutes would be better answered during a drop in help session or a private lesson.  Thank you for your understanding.

While I have you let me show you the second finished Svalbard knit-a-long sweater.  Would you believe Lesley still hasn’t finished hers?  This one was completed last week by Sue G.  Isn’t it a great heathery green?  SO many more are cooking along.  We’ll have more to show you next week I bet.

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

One more finished project.  Madeline has finished her gradient vest in Mirasol Nuna.  She double stranded the yarn and the fabric is truly decadent.  Can you just imagine how SOFT this must be???

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

What are you working on?  Bring it by the shop.  We’d love to see!

So for now I will leave you – until next time – happy knitting!

~Trudy
