Class Name: Beginning Brioche

Class Date: Three Thursdays — March 8, 15, 22

Class Hours: 10:30am – 12:30pm

Instructor: MaryAnn

Class Cost: $60

Skill Level: Intermediate

Need to know:

  • Casting On (long-tail cast on preferably)
  • Knitting in the round
  • Decreasing (right and left slanting)
  • Yarn over
  • Life line

Will learn:

  • One color brioche flat and in the round
  • Two color brioche flat and in the round
  • Decreasing in brioche
  • Reading brioche patterns, an intro to new abbreviations

Homework:

  • Purchase your yarn and bring yarn for making a sample (DK or worsted weight wool in two contrasting colors…no black please – too hard to see what’s going on)
    • Wool in DK weight at least 2 contrasting colors, 3 colors if you want to make exactly the hat in the example
      • Sample was made using Carlton DK
    • 50 gram ball of each color
  • Prepare your needles
    • Probably size 5 or 6 16” circular needle or longer (32”) if doing magic loop
    • Bring size 5, 6, 7 and 8 needles to first class (or whatever combo you have)

Overview:

  • Class 1: Casting on for brioche and one color brioche sample in the flat
  • Class 2: Two color brioche sample and begin work on hat
  • Class 3: Continue working on hat and learn brioche decrease
