Title: Knitting Boot-Camp – The Key to Perfect Fit

Cost: $40

Explanation: In this four-part class, you will learn the key concepts needed to make a knit garment that actually fits.

In Part 1 of this class we start with fit. Fit begins with you and your body, your tastes, choice of color and fabric.   We note your body characteristics. Are you tall, short, long legged, short legged, square, round, pear shaped, V-shaped etc. We then take careful upper body measurements. Given your body type and measurements we explore what types of garments look good on you as opposed to a 6-foot tall, 16-year-old model that weighs 90 pounds.

We introduce the concept of “ease” and “drape” and why these concepts are important to both fit and the type of garment you want to knit. We then explore yarns and yarn content what types of garments lend themselves to the various types of yarns available in today’s marketplace.

In Part 2 of this class we will take the measurements of two of your favorite garments in your closet. Please bring to class two of your favorite knit garments from your closet or chest of drawers. Preferred garments are things like a tank top, a t-shirt, a pullover sweater or a cardigan sweater. Using the concepts we learned in Part 1, we will discuss those garments and explore why you like them and why they look good on you. We will then carefully measure those garments and make a scale drawing of them that you will put into your personalized “Style Book”. We will compare those measurements with your body measurements and discuss why these garments look good on you.

In Part 3 of this class we discuss the importance of knitting a swatch and why this often-overlooked step is very important in making a garment that fits. You will be given a pattern for the “perfect swatch” with instruction that can be used over and over again.

In Part 4 of this class, you will learn how to use Parts 1, 2 and 3 in choosing an appropriate pattern and using the measurements recorded in Part 1 and 2 and the measurements of your swatch created according to the instructions in Part 3 to create a garment that fits beautifully.
