New Year & New Beginnings
Good morning, how are you faring this first week of 2017?
Fresh Starts & A Clean Page
New Year, new beginnings. It is always nice to be able to make a fresh start, isn’t it? It is like starting a fresh page. The page is clean, no blotches, erasures, smudges or ink blots. Such a pleasure. Crisp and new. What will we write on the page this year? Will we be able to keep it crisp and clean? I am sure there will be a few clean pages, but as in life, there will inevitably be the odd page we would like to throw away and reach for a new one. But let’s hope this year we have more crisp clean pages filled with love laughter and success stories.
The Tide is Turning
It sure had its challenges, didn’t it? Are you glad it’s over or do you have some wonderful memories that you were able to make, or be a part of? I am a glass half full kind of person; in case you didn’t know that. Maybe 2016 wasn’t the best year for you, but for many it was the best year of their life.
There are always two sides to every story and not every story has a happy ending but usually in the end good normally outshines the bad. If everyone did their best to be positive, gave love without demanding it back, looked for the good when all they saw or heard was bad, and just did their best in all that they did, 2017 could be a great year.
OK I’m off my soapbox now. Suffice it to say I wish you the very best this very fresh new year.
Thank you so much for being part of my 2016. Yarnitudes has grown busier, we are making more and more friends and it is all thanks to you. Thank you so much for your patronage and helping us to be a positive influence in so many lives.
Plans & Goals 2017
So, do you have any plans or goals for 2017? We can’t help you with all of them I know but hopefully we can help you with the knitting, crochet, felting and other yarn related ones.
Speaking of helping, do you or someone you know have some free time to spare. We know an organization that needs people to teach/share their love of these arts to young people. They range in age from 14 to 18 both boys and girls, it is just for an hour and a half once a week. If you can help or have any interest in this, please let me know and I will put you in touch with them.
How Can We Help You in 2017?
Now to what we can do to help you in 2017. We have the first month of classes now up on the website. We have changed a couple of things up this year, just a little.
New Ideas for Classes
The stitch of the month that we had last year while popular was a little intimidating to some. So, this year we have decided to change it up. We have decided to make this beginner friendly. Once you are able to knit and purl, you will easily be able to make this Twelve Seasons Throw. You can choose your own colors and yarn, or we can help you put some colors together. You will be able to knit the squares together as you go or do it at the end, your preference.
Linda has come up with some easy solutions to help spread the cost, or save you money. The class will remain small so you will get a lot of attention. This does mean however that you should sign up quickly to avoid missing out, and stay committed as we may have to turn people away. This is ideal for those wanting to learn more, but not ready to take on a fitted project. So much can be done with just two stitches, knit and purl. Take your knitting to the next level and don’t miss out.
We Love Helping You Learn to Knit
Of course, if you can’t knit yet but would really like to, perhaps someone has tried to teach you in the past but it just didn’t click. Don’t give up, give me a chance to show you how with just the one knit stitch you can make yourself or a friend a great hat. A hat you may say, that’s too hard. Believe me when I say it really isn’t. I am here to help you after the class, as long as you want to do it and have a little time to invest, you will learn. All you will need is a few hours, one skein of Malabrigo Chunky, a set of 24” size 11 needles (all available here) and you will be all set. The first class is full, so make sure you get set for February. As always private lessons are available as are groups or parties. Just call for details.
Baby Top Down Class-Beginner Class
Baby top down, another class for the beginner. So you can knit and purl, you would really like to make something other than hats or scarves, what’s next? Here is where the baby top down sweater comes in. You can make a sweater for a little one, the same way you would make one for yourself. Its good practice you will learn so much.
When you have completed this little one you will be ready to take on your own, no kidding. One or perhaps two skeins of yarn, a set of needles, the pattern and a little investment of your time and you will be amazed how you will do.
If you don’t have a baby to give the finished article to there are always people out there less fortunate that could put it to good use. What more could you ask for?
Introduction to Continental Knitting
This class was requested from someone who has learned to knit but has seen a different way to knit. It might look faster, easier whatever reason you want to try just a little something different. Linda will show you how. This really inexpensive class will add to your repertoire you might decide it is the best thing ever or you may decide the way you have been knitting is after all the best thing for you. Perhaps you have an injury that won’t allow you to knit like you used to but you just don’t want to give up, perhaps this is just the thing for you. Where there’s a will there’s a way.
Knit Fix Class
We are also offering a knit fix class. I hear so many times, “I can knit, I just can’t tell when I have made a mistake” or “I can tell when I have made a mistake I just don’t know what to do about it.” Again, Linda will be here to help you through some of those challenges. It might require a couple of classes in the future, the more you knit the more ‘Mistakes’ (“There are no mistakes only lessons”) that can be made. We are here to help.
Finish Knitting Techniques
There is also another class that will take you to another level. You finish knitting but when it comes to putting it together, what happens? Lesley will go through the steps needed to make the finish look as good as your knitting.
Looking Forward to Seeing You in 2017
This week’s newsletter is getting rather long, So I will leave you to ponder the classes on line and I will give more details on them next week. I think you will find there is something for everyone. If you see something you would really love to do but the date or time just doesn’t work, talk to us.
We will see what we can do to arrange something that can fit in with your schedule. It is a bit of a challenge to get the date time and subject exactly right for everyone, we understand you only have certain dates and times you can spare. We will do our best to work with you on this.
I hope you have found this newsletter interesting and helpful. Please feel free to comment on whatever floats your boat, or ruffles your petticoats. This is your newsletter as Yarnitudes is your Yarn store, your participation is what keeps it going.
Here’s hoping 2017 will be a great year, see you soon, all the very best ~ Trudy
