Sheep Shearing, a Knit-a-Long, and Some Classes. Oh My!

Hello hello!

I hope the weekend was nice for you.  I’m certainly enjoying the cooler temperatures, aren’t you?

As the temps heat up you may be noticing the sheep around and abouts have been getting haircuts lately.  I was so happy to get photos from our very own Sue the sheep lady aka spinning Sue as some may know her.  She recently had her flock shorn and sent me some before and after photos.   Aren’t they sweet all lined up waiting for their turn?

before

Here’s an action shot for you.  Doesn’t the sheep look a bit put out?  I know I would be.

so dignified

And finally here they are afterwards all tidy and ready for summer!

after

I know the process is pretty involved. I’ve never seen it in person.  Perhaps I will get to see the action this year at our annual shop sheep shearing.  That’s right.  Saturday, July 16 at 3:00pm we will shear Sergeant Speckles our shop sheep.  Most of the year he has a cushy life at Sue’s farm just down the road.  But once a year we bring him over here to get his annual haircut.

Please join us for the shearing this year.  You can ask Sue and Paul, the shearer, questions about sheep, wool, shearing and such.  We will have roving to see from the Sarg’s previous fleeces and we usually have some other specials going on in the store so feel free to make a day of it!

Sonoma County Knitting Class

The 16th also happens to be the day for Linda’s July Stitch of the month clubs.  If you haven’t checked one out yet you should sign up.  They are a fun way to learn something new!  Speaking of something new, I have July’s list of classes for you today.  Please let us know early if you would like to sign up for a class.  You can call the shop, email me back, or stop by to sign up.  There are lots of fun things to learn.  Don’t miss out.  We do need you to pre-pay for our classes going forward.  If we have to cancel a class of course we will reimburse you.  Please give us 24 hours notice if you will be unable to attend.  If we have to cancel a class due to too few students we will give you 48 hours notice.   Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you for joining Madeline for the Ripple Tunic Knit-a-Long in May and June.  I have had a few people stop by for the patterns.  They are fun knits for sure!

I would like to let you know we had to cancel the June-July Linen Skirt Knit-a-Long with Karen due to inattendance.

Sonoma County Yarn Shop

I hope you will join me (Lesley) in July and August for the Exploration Station Shawl Knit-a-Long.  This a super fun pattern by Stephen West.  The color Choices are endless.  Just check out the Ravelry Projects  to see some of the options.  We have many yarns in the shop that would be perfect for this shawl.  Just stop by and see.  We will help you pick out your color scheme and get you ready to start.  We will officially start on Friday, July 1.  But a few people who will have to be out of town have already gotten started.  I admit that I started early myself.  I wanted to make sure I could answer any questions that come up though!  Here are the details!

CustomFit Workshop

July 17 @ 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

– $25

Please contact us to sign up for the class.

Sun. July 17 & 31, 4:30-6:00pm

Before the second workshop you must complete a minimum of a 6″x6″ swatch in stockinette (and in pattern if applicable.)  Please take some time to view the Custom Fit Sweater patterns.  This will make your sweater pattern building session go much faster.  You can view the Custom Fit patterns at home on your computer by clicking here or in the shop where we have a design book for you to look through.  Remember, the options are all customize-able from body and sleeve length to edging choices and details.  If you don’t see what you want you can build your own sweater from scratch.  This option should only be used by experienced sweater knitters.

Day 2:  We will meet one week later to evaluate your swatch  to see if you have good fabric.  We will then measure your gauge and generate your Custom Fit sweater pattern for you in the store.  Now you are ready to knit!

Cost – $25  ($15 credit for yarn)

Have you ever made a sweater that just didn’t fit right?  Are you tired of altering patterns so they fit you? Do you want a sweater that has all the right stuff?  Have you just never knit a sweater because you don’t want all those things to happen to you?  Well we have some exciting news for you and now we can help you get exactly what you want that fits you like a dream!  Yarnitudes is now a CustomFit Local Yarn Store.  That’s right; CustomFit sweaters from Amy Herzog Design are here!  That means we are prepared to help you design and fit your very own CustomFit Sweater.

There are two sessions in this workshop series.  You need to attend both workshops to get a pattern that is ready to knit.

We have several dates available for the workshops.  Please choose one that works for your schedule.  If you absolutely cannot make one of the workshops, we will make one on one appointments.

Day 1: In this workshop we will discuss good sweater yarn, good sweater fabric, and take your measurements.  We will discuss how to swatch and why it is important to swatch.  Here we aren’t swatching “to get gauge.”  We are swatching to get good sweater fabric that will wear well and that we like on a large scale.  By doing this we are taking our stitch pattern and edging choices out for a test drive!  After this workshop, you will go home with a skein of yarn to swatch with.  Once we have a fabric we like then the magic happens.  Custom Fit works with YOUR measurements and YOUR gauge to make a pattern that is just for YOU!
