Summer & Yarn Substitutions

Life Is Moving So Fast

Good Monday Morning,

Hello June, hello summer. Wow already we are into the 6th month of the year! Stop the world, I want to get off. I really don’t want it to stop, just to slow down a bit. I am sure I am not alone. So much going on all the time, it’s hard to catch a breath. want to get off. I really don’t want it to stop, just to slow down a bit. I am sure I am not alone. So much going on all the time, it’s hard to catch a breath.

Summer Is a Great Time for Christmas Gift Knitting

Sebastopol Yarn StoreHopefully the weather will soon settle down and we can start bringing out our summer clothes. I keep trying to put the winter clothes away but then, darn it I need a sweater. It is supposed to be nice for a while though.

Not the best time to be thinking of Christmas but if you are planning on making your gifts now is the best time to get started with it. As always, we are here to help you. Let us know if you want any classes on the subject.

Summer Plans-Vacation & Yarn Hop

Sonoma County Knitting ClassesDo you have any plans to get away, any time soon? I am planning a trip to see my mum but not until September, which in the grand scheme of things won’t be that long at all. Before that though still lots to do. The Yarn Hop in July, don’t want you to forget that.

The progressive cowl is now done and on display in our store so you can get a sneak peek. The project bags are finished and just waiting to be stuffed with goodies, it is all coming together.

You may have seen the cards and posters, if you have friends in other parts of the Bay Area remember to spread the word.

Yarn Substitutions

Sonoma County Knitting ClassesBecause we have so many different types of yarn in the store it is important that we know how to substitute the yarns to the patterns. I am not the type of person that will seek out the exact yarn that the pattern is written for. That is so much part of the fun.

Find a pattern you like and play with it. Just be sure to make a gauge swatch and do the math. The color a pattern is written for is one thing, the color can make such a big difference.

One color will show a design where another may hide it. One type of yarn will make a garment rigid and another will make it drape. One will stand up to wear and one wont. It is so important to get the right yarn for each project, to make sure you get the right affect or the affect that is right for you.

Relax, Take in the Moments & Have Faith

Sebastopol Knitting Classes

Well as I sit here looking around the store and trying to write this, trying to remember what I have told you before and trying not to bore you, I find myself really wanting to pick up the

needles and knit. So, in the interests of my sanity and yours, I am going to keep this short this week and stop now and pick up my needles instead. Wont you join me?

See you next week ~ Trudy
